The Land Commission has officially commenced the verification process for squatters in Bhojpur, aiming to identify and certify landless individuals, including Dalits and informal settlers.
The verification follows data previously collected through local-level applications. According to Devi Ram Chaulagai, Chairperson of the Land Commission Bhojpur, 60 individuals from Shadanand Municipality have already been selected for certification at the municipal level.
“These 60 applicants include landless Dalits and landless squatters who were identified through the Ward-Level Facilitation Committee,” said Chaulagai.
To expand the process, a seven-day public notice has been issued in several rural municipalities: Pauwadungma, Hatuwagadhi, Salpasilichho, and Aamchowk. These notices are part of the ward-level verification phase.
Once municipal-level certification is completed, the final stage will involve district-level re-verification. Only after that will land ownership documents (Lalpurja) be distributed, as per the commission’s procedures.
“We’ve started verification from the ward level,” Chaulagai added. “Certification for 60 individuals in Shadanand Municipality has been completed, and we’re moving forward in other municipalities as well.”
This initiative targets landless Dalits, landless squatters, and unorganized settlers. The Land Commission has confirmed that verified individuals will receive land in accordance with national laws and land distribution policies.
