
Nepal has registered its second consecutive victory in the ACC Men’s U-16 East Region Cricket Tournament, currently being held in Malaysia.
On Tuesday, June 18, 2024 (Asar 4, 2081 BS), Nepal comfortably defeated Japan by 9 wickets. Chasing a modest target of 81 runs set by Japan, Nepal reached the goal in just 14.2 overs, losing only one wicket.
Dominant Batting Display
Shivansh Bajgain played a crucial role with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 38 runs. Prashiddha Jaishi, continuing his fine form from the previous match against Singapore, also remained not out with 33 runs. Jaishi had scored an unbeaten 55 runs in the previous game. However, Joy Thapa was dismissed early, scoring just 1 run.
For Japan, Kaisi Kobayashidogget took the lone wicket.
Nepal’s Bowling Brilliance
Earlier, Japan won the toss and chose to bat first but was bowled out for just 80 runs in 34.3 overs. Charlie Harahinge was the top scorer for Japan with 36 runs, followed by Gabby Harahinge with 13 runs.
Nepal’s bowling attack was led by Shubham Khanal, who delivered a phenomenal performance by taking 5 wickets for just 15 runs in 10 overs. Abhay Yadav claimed 2 wickets while Captain Bipin Prasad Sharma and Sushil Bahadur Rawal grabbed one wicket each.
Recap: Nepal’s First Victory Over Singapore
On Sunday, June 16, 2024 (Asar 2, 2081 BS), Nepal secured a six-wicket win over Singapore in their opening match. Chasing 139 runs, Nepal reached the target in 33.3 overs, losing only four wickets.
In that match, Prashiddha Jaishi led the scoring with an unbeaten 55 runs. Raunak Srivastava added 40 runs, and Shubham Khanal contributed 9 runs not out. Nepal’s opener Suryanshu Koirala retired hurt after scoring 9.
From Singapore’s bowling side, Akash Teja took 3 wickets and Yuwan Pandey took 1 wicket.
Singapore had earlier chosen to bat first after winning the toss and were all out for 138 runs in 36.1 overs. Captain Riyan Nayak top-scored with 53 runs, while Aahan Bhudhanbham added 38, and Roshan Arun made 11.
Nepal’s bowling effort was once again commendable. Captain Bipin Sharma took 4 wickets, Sachin Bhatt took 3, while Shubham Khanal and Abhay Yadav took one wicket each.
Tournament Overview
The tournament, organized under the annual calendar of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), features 10 participating teams. Nepal is placed in Group A, alongside Singapore, Indonesia, Bhutan, and Japan.
Group B includes host Malaysia, Hong Kong, Maldives, Thailand, and Myanmar.
