
In the first five months of the current fiscal year, Nepal imported mobile phones totaling over Rs 15.18 billion, an 11.69% increase over the amount spent during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Between mid-July and mid-December of FY 2023–2024, the nation imported cellphones valued at Rs 13.59 billion, according to statistics with the Department of Customs.
The quantity of imported cellphones rose from 902,981 to 990,754 throughout the evaluation period. During this year’s review period, the transaction generated Rs 2.83 billion in customs income for the government.
The largest source of mobile phone imports was China. The northern neighbor supplied Nepal with 747,564 mobile phones valued at Rs 10.35 billion. Similarly, 239,878 mobile phone units of Rs 4.59 billion were imported from India.
