From December 24, 2024, to January 1, 2025, the nation’s first-ever International Balloon Festival will take place in the tourism hub of Nepal.
Balloon Nepal Pvt. Ltd. has scheduled the event to take place during the holidays and New Year’s celebrations. The festival, according to Balloon Nepal’s director Bishnu Bhakta Dhakal, would give Pokhara’s tourism industry a fresh perspective. Pokhara, which is abundant in natural resources, has recently gained popularity as an adventure travel destination.
In this regard, the balloon festival would help Pokhara achieve its goal of being a top adventure travel destination, the speaker added. The event will take place in the Pame region of Pokhara and cover a three-kilometer stretch from Lauruk to Chankhpur. About thirty professional balloon businesses from Nepal and around the world will be participating. The objective is to advertise Nepal and Pokhara as adventure travel destinations worldwide.
Over 500 professional and 300 non-commercial balloon flights are anticipated to occur during the festival’s week-long run. Mini balloon shows, cultural performances by local and national artists, food vendors, and other entertainment options will all be available at the event.
It is anticipated that the event will increase both domestic and foreign travel to Nepal, particularly during the post-pandemic recovery phase, which will benefit local companies such as lodging and dining establishments. The event is getting ready, according to Balloon Nepal Pvt. Ltd. Chairman Bikram Bade. He states that approximately thirty expert balloon firms from Nepal and other nations are anticipated to take part in this first event in Nepal. He clarified that the event’s goal is to raise awareness of Pokhara and Nepal’s travel industry abroad.
“The festival’s goals are to boost domestic and international traveler numbers, promote adventure tourism in Pokhara, and resurrect the industry,” Chairman Bade stated. “More local and foreign visitors to Pokhara as a result of the event will contribute to the country’s tourism industry’s recovery following the pandemic,” he said, expressing optimism that the event will enhance tourism and increase activities.
