Lamichhane, a former home minister, was taken into custody on October 18 in connection with the misappropriation of funds from the Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara.

RSP officials and cadres have been demonstrating since their chairman was arrested, accusing the government of engaging in political vendettas. RSP employees protested outside the courtroom today when Lamichhane was brought in for the third time to request an extension of his judicial detention.

When the mob tried to reach the forbidden area, police used four rounds of tear gas canisters to keep them under control.
