RSP Reshuffles Leadership Amid General Secretary Record Controversy

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has officially appointed Kabindra Burlakoti as its General Secretary and Manish Jha as the party’s Spokesperson. This decision was made during the RSP’s central committee meeting held on Saturday morning.

According to Jha, who was previously the acting spokesperson, the meeting decided to formalize both leaders’ roles. Burlakoti had been serving as the acting General Secretary.

The leadership change follows a revelation from the Election Commission, which published records on Friday confirming that Dr. Mukul Dhakal was still listed as the party’s official General Secretary. Dhakal, who had been dismissed from the party, had inquired whether the Election Commission had updated the records regarding his removal.

Responding to his inquiry, the Commission stated:
“As per your application registered on 2082/03/04 BS (June 18, 2025), the details of changes in office bearers and members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party’s central committee were last updated on 2080/12/20 BS (April 2, 2024), and no updates have been recorded since then.”

Following this disclosure, the RSP central committee convened and reassigned internal responsibilities.

The party has now entered its fourth year. Under the leadership of Rabi Lamichhane, the RSP was publicly announced on Asar 7, 2079 BS (June 21, 2022), and officially registered with the Election Commission on Asar 17, 2079 BS (July 1, 2022).

Currently, party president Rabi Lamichhane is in Rupandehi District Prison, facing trial over allegations of misusing cooperative savings.
