UML Says No Party-Specific Agreements as RSP Continues Protest in Parliament

The ruling CPN-UML has made it clear that the government will not enter into separate agreements with individual political parties. The statement comes amid continued obstruction of the House of Representatives by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Addressing reporters at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Friday, UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula emphasized that parliamentary operations will proceed based on the existing agreement with the Maoist Centre.

“The government won’t make deals with each party separately. The House will function under the agreement made with the Maoist Centre,” said Bartaula.

He criticized the RSP for continuing to create disruptions despite previous understandings.

“The Prime Minister’s question-answer session was scheduled as per the parliamentary regulations. Rescheduling it isn’t an option. The Speaker removed it from the agenda because the Prime Minister cannot be made to appear amid sloganeering,” he explained.

The RSP has been disrupting parliamentary proceedings since May 27, 2025 (Jestha 14, 2081 BS), in protest over the recent visit visa scandal. The party has been demanding the formation of either a high-level investigative committee or a judicial commission to probe the issue.

Despite previous dialogues, the RSP has warned that it will not allow the House to function until their demands are met.
