Koshi Province Launches Visit Koshi Year 2025 Campaign

The Koshi Provincial Government has officially declared this year as “Visit Koshi Year 2025”, initiating a wide range of promotional campaigns to boost tourism throughout the region.

As part of its annual policy and budget for the fiscal year, the government allocated dedicated funds to mark the year as a regional tourism milestone. Under the leadership of Minister for Tourism, Forest, and Environment, Sadananda Mandal, a Visit Koshi Year Directive Committee has been actively coordinating various programs aimed at increasing both domestic and international tourist footfall.

Currently, two dedicated promotional teams are conducting outreach programs across different parts of Nepal.

According to committee member Basudev Baral, the campaign includes familiarization (FAM) tours for national and international journalists and a series of roadshows across key cities. These efforts are designed to introduce and promote major tourist destinations within Koshi Province.

Baral shared that 17 journalists from Nepal and India—including participants from Sikkim, Bihar, and West Bengal—are taking part in the ongoing media tour.

The group has already visited a range of tourism hotspots, including:

  • Ramdhuni Temple and Barahakshetra in Sunsari
  • Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve
  • Religious and natural landmarks in Dharan
  • Orange City in Dhankuta
  • Chotlunga Park in Laligurans Municipality, Tehrathum

Baral highlighted that Orange City was formed by merging two local villages, where orange farming is abundant. “The idea is to encourage citrus farmers while also boosting agro-tourism,” he noted.

The team is scheduled to visit Mundum Trail and the Halesi Temple in Bhojpur today, Baral added. He also serves as the General Secretary of the Hotel Association, Koshi Province.

Under the leadership of committee member Rajan Dangal, the roadshows began on Ashadh 11, 2082 BS (June 25, 2025) and have already been successfully conducted in:

  • Kathmandu (2 events)
  • Lalitpur (2 events)
  • Pokhara, Narayangadh, and Hetauda (1 each)

Baral also disclosed that the Ministry has allocated NPR 100 million (10 crores) for tourism under the current fiscal year. For the next fiscal year, the same amount has been earmarked, with NPR 44.7 million allocated for infrastructure development and destination branding. The remaining budget will be channeled through private sector organizations involved in tourism development.
